Here, the dancers depict the myriad roles of the supernatural snake: as the cobra adorning Lord Shiva’s head, as the bangles of Shiva’s consort Parvati, as the poisonous dweller of the underworld, and as the protector of Krishna. “Naadhar mudi mel irrukum” in raga Punnagavarali set to Adi talam is the well known composition of Pambaatti Siddhar, one of the famous Siddhas of Tamil Nadu who originally belonged to the Jogi tribe that caught snakes for a living.
